OpusClip Review (2026): Credits, Captions, and the Virality Score

By Andrew · October 24, 2026

OpusClip turns a long video into short clips with captions, a reframe, and a score OpusClip calls Virality Score. Free is 60 credits a month, and those clips stop being exportable after 3 days. Starter is $15/month, monthly billing only, with 150 credits and no watermark. Pro is $29/month, or $14.50/month billed annually ($174/year), with 300 credits.

Prices are from OpusClip’s pricing page, checked October 16, 2026, in US dollars. Annual billing saves up to 50%. The Virality Score is the company’s ranking of a clip. It is not a count of views we measured, and it is not a promise that a post will travel.

Figure (clip diagram, not a product screenshot). Alt: A long video goes in. OpusClip returns several vertical clips with captions and a Virality Score. A person deletes the weak ones and posts the rest. Free clips expire after 3 days. A side path shows Descript, which edits the long cut first, and CapCut, which edits a short on a timeline.

The channel that uses this as the last step, after a long video exists, is how to start a faceless YouTube channel. Generators that create footage, rather than cut it, are in best AI video generators.

What the product is doing

You paste a link or upload a file. ClipAnything is OpusClip’s name for a model that finds moments in more than podcasts: vlogs, gaming, sports, interviews, and explainers. AI reframe crops for vertical frames and tracks the subject. Animated captions cover 20+ languages. The language list OpusClip publishes includes English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and others. You can still trim, change a caption, and add B-roll.

Virality Score sorts that pile. Use it as a queue, not as a fact about the audience. Watch the first two seconds yourself. A high score on a clip that starts mid-sentence is still a bad post. The human pass is the product. The model is the rough cut.

Pro’s 6 social connections and scheduling are how a team posts without downloading every file. Starter is how a solo creator removes the watermark and keeps the export. Free is how you learn whether the model finds the moment you would have picked. Do not build a posting calendar on Free. The 3-day export window will delete the plan.

Credits are the meter for processing video. The pricing page does not reduce “150 credits” to a guaranteed number of input minutes in the summary we used. Upload one representative episode, read the credits, and multiply. Pro’s unused credits roll over for 2 months. Starter’s billing is monthly only, so do not expect the annual discount on the $15 tier.

A first episode that tells you the truth

  1. Pick a video you already know well, so you can tell if the model missed the best moment.
  2. Run it on Free. Set a clip length you would actually post, in the 30 to 60 second range if you are writing the instruction yourself.
  3. Sort by Virality Score. Open the top clip and the bottom clip. If you disagree with both, the score is not helping you, and the tool may still be useful as a cutter.
  4. Fix captions, especially names and numbers. Animated captions are wrong often enough that a publish without a read is a mistake.
  5. If you need the file next week, move to Starter before the 3-day window. If you will do this every episode and you want rollover, two seats, or scheduling for several accounts, price Pro’s annual $174 against twelve months of Starter at $15 ($180). Those are list prices. Pro is the better contract when rollover and scheduling matter. Starter is the better contract when they do not.

FAQ

Is OpusClip free?

Yes. Free includes 60 credits a month. Clips on that plan cannot be exported after 3 days. Starter at $15/month removes the watermark and keeps the files.

What is a Virality Score?

It is OpusClip’s ranking of which clips it expects to perform. Treat it as a sort order. It is not a view count, and this review did not test it against later analytics.

How much video does one credit process?

The pricing summary we checked lists monthly credit totals, not a universal minutes-per-credit rate. Process one real video and read the deduction before you buy a year of Pro.
